BJP's conceit and pride are crushed: Abhishek Banerjee of the TMC comments on the outcome of the LS vote

Kolkata: Senior Trinamool Congress politician Abhishek Banerjee hailed the Lok Sabha elections as one of "protest, resistance, and revenge," claiming that the results have "crushed BJP's arrogance and pride into dust." "Abusing central agencies, corrupting the judiciary, gagging the media, and manipulating the Election Commission to cling to power" was another charge he leveled at the saffron party.

After meeting with party workers and ordinary citizens in his Diamond Harbour constituency, where he was re-elected by a record margin of over 7 lakh votes, the TMC national general secretary said late on Friday night on Facebook that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be remembered in gold as "jonogoner gorjon" (people's roar).

"The people's cry, or "jonogoner gorjon," will live on in history written in gold letters. 'Protibaad, protirodh and protishodh' (protest, resistance and retaliation) was the theme of this Lok Sabha election. The BJP's haughtiness, self-importance, and resolve have crumbled," he declared.

Even though the BJP-led NDA won a majority on its own and went on to win a third straight term in office, the saffron party now needs the backing of Telugu Desam Party and JD (U), two important partners, in order to stay in power.
