Ajit Agarkar, the chairman of selectors, was initially asked about Hardik Pandya's omission from the T20I captaincy, despite all the evidence pointing to his promotion following his outstanding performances in the T20 World Cup final. Agarkar stated, "We listened to the feedback from the dressing room" in reference to selecting Suryakumar Yadav as captain.
It was an obvious sign that the selectors were considering other options and, more significantly, listening to the players' voices—even though Pandya was a vice captain for the Indian team. Regarding their choice, Agarkar stated, "We have heard positive things about Surya and we think he has the potential to grow into the job.
