Mangaluru: The state government is being urged to impose similar rules on all government-managed holy locations and temples by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), which has voiced strong support for the recently proposed dress code by the Sringeri Temple.

Significant Karnataka holy institution Sringeri Sri Shankara Math has decided that, as of August 15, devotees visiting Sri Sharadamba for darshan will have to wear traditional Hindu clothing. In a news release, Sharan Kumar Pumpwell, the joint secretary of the VHP Karnataka Dakshina Pranth, praised this decision.

According to Sharan Kumar Pumpwell, "The VHP applauds the initiative by Sringeri Sri Shankara Math." "On behalf of the Hindu community, VHP requests the state government to establish a dress code for all religious places and temples under the Endowment Department, following the example set by Sringeri Math." Sharan also disclosed to Deccan Chronicle that the VHP intends to promptly provide a formal memorandum endorsing this effort to the state government.
