What is the "Bhangra twiddle," which is Manika Batra's unexpected weapon?
Be cautious when it comes to the Olympic paddle grip changeover.

At the Saudi SMAASH in May, Manika Batra famously pulled a prank on Chinese player Wang Manyu by fiddling at match point, ahead 11–10, after trailing 8–10. Twiddling is the process of rapidly switching from backhand to forehand rubber grips by spinning the TT paddle. Manika has been trained to fidget for fifteen years, but she hardly ever uses it and when she does, it's usually with a strong, ineffective blow.
However, Manika anticipated that Wang would turn to go for the backhand against the World No. 2 Chinese player, so she rotated the grip while playing pure placement on the block to deliver the ball to her opponent's forehand. It was dangerous because Wang would have been back in the match at 11-11 and would have forced Manika into a decider if she had missed. The Chinese are skilled at countering.
