PM Modi's Nomination from Varanasi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will file his nomination from Varanasi today for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, aiming for a third term from the constituency. A day prior to submitting his papers, PM Modi conducted a 6-km-long roadshow, pledging further development for the city if re-elected.

Starting his day with prayers at Assi Ghat alongside a visit to the Kaal Bhairav Temple, PM Modi will proceed to file his nomination papers at 11:30 am. He will then address the audience at the Rudraksh Convention Center before departing from Varanasi at 1 pm.

Expressing his gratitude, PM Modi shared, "I am overwhelmed and emotional! I did not even realize how 10 years passed under the shade of your affection. I had said that Maa Ganga had called me. Today Maa Ganga has embraced me."

Varanasi witnessed a significant electoral battle in 2014 when Mr Modi contested against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, securing a resounding victory. This victory solidified Varanasi as a BJP stronghold, a legacy PM Modi aims to uphold in the upcoming elections.

Varanasi, with its five assembly seats, has historically been a battleground between the BJP and the Congress. Since 1957, BJP has won the seat seven times, while the Congress secured victory six times. Neither the Samajwadi Party nor the Bahujan Samaj Party has won the Varanasi seat.

The demographic makeup of Varanasi includes 75% Hindus, 20% Muslims, and 5% other religions. Scheduled Tribes constitute around 10%, with Scheduled Castes comprising 0.7%. The urban population constitutes 65%, with the remaining 35% residing in rural areas.

PM Modi emphasized the neglect of Varanasi during previous regimes but expressed his commitment to its development. He pledged to continue serving the people of Varanasi and expressed confidence in its contribution to India's development.

Prominent leaders such as Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh are expected to accompany PM Modi during his nomination filing. Varanasi will witness its electoral showdown on June 1, with PM Modi facing Congress candidate Ajay Rai for the third time.
