The coach of Vinesh Phogat deleted the post after thinking that she would die from losing weight.

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, former Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat silenced millions of her detractors by defeating reigning Olympic champion and top-ranked wrestler Yui Susaki. Vinesh made history by being the first female wrestler from India to advance to the Olympic finals. But in a tragic turn of events, Vinesh was disqualified for being 100 grams overweight the morning of her gold medal match. This cost her the chance to win silver in addition to eliminating her from the gold medal match.

In addition, Vinesh appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), asking to be given a joint silver medal in the women's 50 kg competition.

Nevertheless, the CAS rejected her request earlier this week, while the details of their verdict is expected to come out later this month.

Woller Akos, Vinesh's coach at the Paris Olympics, expressed his fear that the wrestler "might die" at the end of the five and a half hours of intensive weight-cutting in a now-deleted Facebook post.

1.5 kg of extra weight remained after we worked out for an hour and twenty minutes, despite the fact that there were 2.7 kg left over after the semi-final. She spent fifty minutes in the sauna, and nary a drop of sweat fell on her. There was nothing else for it, so she spent the next three quarters of an hour, with two to three minutes of respite, working out on various cardio machines and wrestling techniques from midnight to 5:30 in the morning. Subsequently, she resumed. She passed out, but we managed to get her upright, and she went into the sauna for an hour. I don't do it on purpose write dramatic details, but I only remember thinking that she might die," Akos wrote in a post which he later deleted.

For those who don't know, Vinesh was admitted to the hospital the morning of her last fight because of dehydration. Woller also clarified what Vinesh had informed him on their way home from the hospital.

"On our way home from the hospital that evening, we had a fascinating talk. "Don't be sad, Coach. You told me that if I ever find myself in a tough situation and I need extra energy, I should think that I beat the best woman wrestler in the world, Yui Susaki of Japan." Vinesh Phogat stated. I accomplished my objective and demonstrated my superiority over others. We've shown that the strategies are effective. Podiums and medals are merely things. "One's performance is irreplaceable," he continued.

"Vinesh had beseeched Sakshi and Bajrang to refrain from discarding their arduously acquired Olympic medals into the river. She pleaded with them to hold onto those, saying they were special. However, they clarified to her that the voyage held significance and that medals did not define their performance. We will always be pleased that our professional program may enable an Indian woman wrestler to advance to the Olympic final for the first time ever and defeat the greatest female wrestler in the world," Akos said.
