The Congress General Secretary told India Today, "I have not seen much because I am currently in UP... If there are any atrocities against any woman, then I will speak in favor of the woman only... I will stand in favor of the woman no matter where anything wrong happens to the woman."
Gandhi further asserted, "If anything is true, if something wrong has happened, then I am standing with that woman," also adding that "If Swati Maliwal wants to talk to me, then I will talk."
The Congress leader remarked, "If Kejriwal ji knows about this matter, then I hope that Kejriwal ji will take some appropriate action. I hope Kejriwal ji will find a solution which is acceptable to Swati Maliwal."
She, however, questioned how BJP leaders could speak on this issue when the party did not take action on the Hathras and Unnao gangrape cases. She commented, "BJP did not do anything on the issue of our female wrestlers."
On Monday morning, Maliwal went to the Civil Lines police station in New Delhi and alleged that a member of Kejriwal's personal staff "assaulted" her at the chief minister's official residence. But she did not file a formal complaint. A day after Maliwal’s charges, senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh, in a press conference, admitted the allegations and said Kejriwal will take strict action in the matter. The Delhi Chief Minister has not commented publicly on the matter.
The BJP, targeting Kejriwal, accused him of "remaining silent" and behaving more like a "goon". BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia claimed that the AAP supremo is the main "criminal" in the complaint.
Meanwhile, a Delhi Police team reached Maliwal's house earlier today in connection with the allegations. The National Commission for Women (NCW) summoned Kejriwal's aide Bibhav Kumar over Maliwal's allegations.
