PM Narendra Modi alleged that the Trinamool Congress government had imprisoned BJP workers prior to the Lok Sabha polls.

Amid forecasts of the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) triumph in the Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Tuesday that the Bharatiya Janata Party would experience its "greatest success" in West Bengal, governed by Mamata Banerjee.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has made significant advances in Bengal, where politics historically revolved around the Congress, the Left, and the Trinamool Congress for many years. The BJP appears to have supplanted the Left as the primary opposition, following unexpectedly favorable outcomes in both the 2019 general elections and the 2021 Bengal assembly polls.

In an interview today, PM Modi asserted that Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress is engaged in a battle for survival. He stated that the Lok Sabha elections will overwhelmingly favor the BJP.

"TMC is fighting for survival in the Bengal elections. In the last assembly elections, we had just 3 seats, but the people of Bengal propelled us to 80 seats. We achieved a significant majority in the last Lok Sabha elections. This time, West Bengal is poised to become the best-performing state in India. BJP is experiencing maximum success in West Bengal. The election in West Bengal is lopsided. The people are leading it, and due to the presence of those individuals in the government, TMC's members are feeling disheartened," he informed ANI.

PM Modi asserted that the Trinamool Congress government had detained BJP workers ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. "Despite these injustices, more people are participating in the voting process, and the number of votes is increasing," he added.

In the 2021 assembly polls, the BJP's seat count rose from 3 to 77. In the 2019 general elections, the party's seat tally surged from 2 to 18. The BJP's vote share exceeded 40 percent, compared to the TMC's 43 percent, showcasing the depth of support for the former in Bengal.

Regarding Naveen Patnaik, PM Modi stated that the BJP would establish a government in Odisha. He mentioned his relationship with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, saying he would sacrifice their equation for the prosperous future of Odisha.

"We maintain cordial relations with leaders of all political parties in India, and in a democracy, we do not harbor enmity," stated PM Modi. "Now, the question arises whether I should prioritize maintaining these relations or focus on the welfare of Odisha. I have chosen to dedicate myself to the bright future of Odisha, and if it requires sacrificing my relationships, I am willing to do so. After the elections, I will endeavor to convince everyone that I hold no ill will towards anyone."

PM Modi has set an ambitious target of 400 seats for the BJP and its allies. The party, which secured 303 seats in the 2019 general election, will need to achieve significant victories in Bengal and southern states to realize this goal.
