Sony hosted its State of Play showcase early Friday, unveiling several new announcements for upcoming PS5 and PS VR2 games. The showcase also included new trailers for the live service shooter Concorde and horror titles Until Dawn and Silent Hill 2.
State of Play marked the beginning of the summer season for the video game industry showcase events, where major publishers and developers will provide updates on upcoming titles and unveil new games. Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest starts on June 7, followed by the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9. While Sony didn't unveil any projects from its major studios, the State of Play showcase featured plenty of intriguing announcements for the coming year. Here's a summary of everything announced or revealed during the stream:
God of War Ragnarok Coming to PC
God of War Ragnarok, the latest first-party PlayStation title, is being ported to PC. Santa Monica Studio's acclaimed action-adventure title, initially released on PS5 and PS4 in 2022, will launch on PC on September 19, 2024. The port is being developed in collaboration with Jetpack Interactive, the studio behind the PC port of God of War (2018).
The announcement was accompanied by a trailer, confirming that the PC version of the game will include PC features such as unlocked framerates, support for Nvidia DLSS 3.7, AMD FSR 3.1, and Intel XeSS 1.3 upscaling techniques, as well as super ultra-wide monitor support. Additionally, the game will incorporate last year's Valhalla DLC.
Team Asobi is set to release a sequel to Astro's Playroom, the 3D platformer that was pre-installed on PS5 and served as a tech demo for new DualSense controller features. Astro Bot is described as a "space adventure" with a much larger scope than previous games. Players will have the opportunity to explore six galaxies and over 80 levels in search of Astro's crew.
The announcement of Astro Bot was accompanied by an extensive gameplay trailer, showcasing diverse environments and new gameplay mechanics. The game is scheduled to launch exclusively on PS5 on September 6, with pre-orders opening on June 7.
Firewalk Studios' forthcoming multiplayer shooter, Concord, debuted a new trailer at State of Play, showcasing gameplay, the game world, and its characters along with their unique abilities. First teased last year, Concord is a 5v5 multiplayer shooter inspired by games like Overwatch and Valorant.
A new trailer for the Silent Hill 2 remake was unveiled, disclosing its release date. The psychological survival horror game, initially announced in 2022, is set to launch on PS5 and PC on October 8. The latest trailer showcased additional combat scenes from the game, which is now open for pre-orders.
Following the State of Play showcase, Konami hosted a Silent Hill Transmission livestream, during which it offered updates on various Silent Hill projects and presented 13 minutes of gameplay footage from the Silent Hill 2 remake.
State of Play also featured a new trailer for Until Dawn. The survival horror game, slated for remastering on PS5 and PC, was initially announced in January. Although no specific release date has been provided yet, Until Dawn has received confirmation of its release window. It is scheduled to launch on PC and PS5 in Fall 2024.
The new gameplay trailer showcased the visual enhancements coming to the remastered version. Until Dawn, developed by Supermassive Games, originally debuted on PS4 in 2015.
State of Play unveiled the next entry in the Dynasty Warriors series: Dynasty Warriors: Origins. The trailer showcased large-scale battles and the game's hack-and-slash action combat. It's slated to release on the PS5 sometime next year.
First unveiled at the 2023 Game Awards, Monster Hunter Wilds was presented with a new trailer at State of Play.
