Playbooks are updated by IndiGo and Air India to match the growing middle class in India.
The middle class in India is changing significantly due to the country's increasing affluence, with a growing desire for high-end goods and experiences both on Earth and in the air. To meet the increasing demand, airlines are capitalizing on this trend by providing opulent facilities like larger seats, gourmet meals served on designer crockery, and elaborate vanity kits.
Encouraged by the increasing wages of Indians, the middle class, or "aam aadmi," is undergoing a significant lifestyle shift. An increasing number of Indians are choosing high-end goods and experiences both on the ground and in the air, since they have a taste for luxury at all elevations. India's ambitions are growing, and many people are now choosing to board a plane instead of taking the train. They even sport the "airport look" these days.
Airlines are increasingly courting travelers with more spacious seats, upscale wines matched with fine dining served on upscale crockery, and opulent vanity kits in an effort to meet the rising demand.
Following the announcement by the Tata Group-owned Air India that it would be upgrading the cabins on its A320 narrow-body aircraft, IndiGo has now disclosed that it will allow passengers to select more luxurious options. According to ET, IndiGo, the only airline in India to continuously make money in the fiercely competitive domestic market, is switching from a single-class cabin strategy to a dual-class cabin approach.
The budget carrier will soon provide amenities like hot food and a reward program, and it plans to have a few planes with larger seats.
"We are expanding upon the thriving domestic market that served as IndiGo's cornerstone. By the end of the decade, that will have doubled, resulting in new flyers who will travel 30 times a year in addition to the ones who travel on trains now. For all of those customers, IndiGo wants to be their preferred carrier, he stated.
