The test in Odisha has just begun for the BJP. And one may argue that its initial measures were correct.
The BJP will aim to live up to the hopes and expectations of the people of Odisha, a state that not only gave the party its first government in the East but also 20 MPs, four more than its largest NDA ally TDP, to the Narendra Modi government as it ushers in a new era of politics and governance after nearly 25 years under Naveen Patnaik. The party has selected Mohan Charan Majhi for the position, and on Wednesday, at a major ceremony in Bhubaneswar, he will take the oath of office as Chief Minister.
It took a week for the results of the state's simultaneous elections to be announced, which may be a sign of the rigorous consideration that must have gone into choosing the new chief minister.
