No end to the AAP's difficulties in Delhi. MLA Kartar Singh Tanwar who joined the BJP has a solid foundation and is an old hand.

Kartar Singh Tanwar, a Chhatarpur MLA, joined the BJP on Wednesday, dealing another blow to Delhi's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is suffering a leadership vacuum with all of its key leaders in jail.

Tanwar stated that he was leaving the AAP due to the party's "dictatorship". "Delhi's health has deteriorated significantly. The AAP ministers' authoritarianism and policies prevent us from taking action. For the past three months, people in Delhi have been crying out for water during the height of summer. When we highlighted the problem with the ministries, they blamed the Lieutenant Governor, (Prime Minister) Modi ji, and the Haryana government," he explained.Tanwar's departure represents a significant setback for the AAP. According to a party official, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal "personally called" Tanwar "to offer the South Delhi seat in the recent Lok Sabha elections." However, things did not work out, and the AAP fielded Sahi Ram instead, who lost to the BJP's Ramvir Singh Bidhuri.

Tanwar, 62, is well-known in the capital's Chhattarpur neighborhood, and he joined the BJP on Wednesday with Chattarpur ward councillor Umesh Singh Phoghat, AAP volunteers Ratnesh Gupta and Sachin Rai, and former Patel Nagar MLA Veena Anand.

Tanwar's return to the BJP is somewhat symbolic, given he began his political career as a Municipal Corporation of Delhi councillor on the BJP ticket. He joined the AAP in 2014 and was elected to the Delhi Assembly from the Chattarpur seat in 2015. He kept his seat in 2020.In July 2016, the Income Tax Department (IT) conducted raids on his Fatehpur village home and a farmland in South Delhi. The IT Department claimed to have discovered cash and identified movable and immovable assets totaling several hundred crores.
