Unveiling much-anticipated new AI features, such as a collaboration with ChatGPT creator OpenAI, Apple Inc. is placing a wager that a subtle and customized approach to the technology will appeal to users.
The centerpiece of the company's Monday presentation at the Worldwide Developers Conference, which also included changes to the operating systems of the iPhone manufacturer, was a new artificial intelligence platform called Apple Intelligence. When consumers require it, technology will assist in producing unique visuals, summarizing text, and retrieving the most pertinent information. A revised version of Siri, the company's once-leading digital assistant, is also part of the push.

Apple is putting a lot of money on the line to overtake competitors in the rapidly expanding AI business. The business is lagging behind tech competitors like Microsoft Corp. and Alphabet Inc.'s Google counting on a streamlined interface - and loyal customer base - to regain ground.

"This is a moment we've been working toward for a long time," software engineering senior vice president Craig Federighi remarked at the function. "AI for the rest of us," he said when describing Apple Intelligence, referencing an old Mac catchphrase.

Thanks to the collaboration with OpenAI, which Bloomberg covered before to the event, users will be able to access ChatGPT via Siri for free. Apple Intelligence will start to roll out later this year, but other features won't be available until next year, including as Siri's ability to precisely control functionality within apps. Additional languages will not be supported till later.

Attending the event on Monday, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed his happiness on social networking platform X about collaborating with Apple. Although the ChatGPT integration is free, OpenAI customers that pay for a subscription will eventually receive more capabilities. Apple stated that it intends to support additional services later. The two companies have also had discussions over the use of Google's Gemini feature.

One of the main themes of the talk was making sure that consumer data is secure. Federighi stated that a mechanism known as Private Cloud Compute will assist in protecting customer data when it is being transferred to data centers. Additionally, Apple Intelligence will offer automatic photo editing and Genmoji, an AI-created emoji.
