After Lok Sabha cheers, Mumbai Congress returns to battling ways.
Growing opposition to Varsha Gaikwad is currently being heard in the state unit that has always been divided, with some leaders calling for the recent MP to be ousted from his position as Mumbai Congress chairman.
Following its remarkable achievement in Maharashtra during the most recent Lok Sabha elections, the Mumbai Congress is experiencing internal strife once again. A number of senior party leaders are attempting to remove its leader and recently elected Mumbai North Central MP, Varsha Gaikwad.
A letter penned by a few leaders to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, stressing the "need to strengthen the party organization" before the Assembly polls, is perceived as an attempt to put Gaikwad under pressure. Among the signatories is someone who asserts that the Mumbai Congress has experienced a "organizational decline" under her direction.
