The Indian men's hockey team, led by captain Harmanpreet Singh, arrived in New Delhi on Saturday morning after earning the bronze medal in the Olympics in Paris. The Indian team defeated Spain 2-1 in the third-place match on Thursday in Paris, increasing their record medal total to 13. Nevertheless, some essential players from the bronze medal-winning squad stayed behind in the French capital to attend the Games' closing ceremony. Goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, often known as the "Wall" from India, was chosen to carry the flag in tandem with double medallist Manu Bhaker during the closing ceremony and chose to stay in Paris.

Amit Rohidas, Raj Kumar Pal, Abhishek, Sukhjeet Singh, and Sanjay are scheduled to return following Sreejesh  the closing ceremony.

When Harmanpreet and the team emerged from arrivals at the Indira Gandhi Airport early in the morning, they were met with flowers and a festive dhol.

"Everything we needed was provided, and we have all the assistance we need. I sincerely wish to express my gratitude to... Upon his arrival, Harmanpreet informed the journalists, "We are very happy and proud."

It's a significant victory for hockey. Our responsibility is doubled by the affection hockey is receiving. We'll also make an effort to leave the field with a medal each time we do," he continued.

Along with eight gold and one silver, India's victory in the bronze medal game on Wednesday marked their 13th medal overall in men's hockey.

Additionally, this is the first time India has won an Olympic medal twice in a row since 1972.

In the bronze medal match, India defeated Spain 2-1 at the Yves-du-Manoir Stadium - 1 in the French capital, thanks to goals by captain Harmanpreet (30, 33).


Harmanpreet became the top goal scorer in the men's division of the competition with his two strikes, bringing his total to ten goals.
