MacBook With Foldable Display Arriving in 2026: Ming-Chi Kuo Reveals Apple's Two Screen Sizes!

Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that Apple plans to launch a MacBook featuring a foldable display by 2026. Apple is reportedly considering two screen sizes for this innovative device.

An analyst suggests that the bill of materials cost for Apple's initial foldable MacBook could be comparable to that of its Vision Pro headset.

TF Securities International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has shared details suggesting that Apple may introduce a new MacBook model featuring a foldable display in the near future. According to Kuo's blog post, Apple is contemplating two screen sizes for the upcoming foldable MacBook and has already selected exclusive suppliers for the display and hinge components. The analyst predicts that the device will have a high bill of materials (BOM) and a correspondingly high retail price upon its launch.

Kuo mentions that LG Display will exclusively supply the panel for the foldable MacBook's display. Additionally, Apple is reportedly considering two display sizes: 18.8 inches or 20.25 inches, resulting in laptop sizes of 13 inches and 14 inches when folded. The hinge for the folding laptop is expected to be supplied by Amphenol.

Shortly after Kuo's disclosure of these potential display sizes, Ross Young, CEO and Co-Founder of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), also confirmed Apple's work on a MacBook featuring a foldable screen. In a subscriber-only post on X (formerly Twitter), Young revealed that due to production costs, Apple may opt for an 18.76-inch screen instead of the initially speculated 20.25-inch display.

According to Kuo, Apple has prioritized high design standards for both the panel and hinge of the upcoming foldable MacBook model to minimize creases on the display. The production costs for these components are currently estimated to be around $650 (approximately Rs. 54,100) for the panel and $250 (approximately Rs. 20,800) for the hinge.

As a result of these high production costs, Kuo suggests that the bill of materials (BOM) for the first-generation foldable MacBook could be similar to that of the Apple Vision Pro, which was released by the company in February. However, it remains uncertain whether the pricing for the MacBook will match that of Apple's headset, priced at $3,499 (approximately Rs. 2.91 lakh).

Kuo anticipates that the foldable laptop could ship more than 1 million units annually after its launch.

The analyst predicts that Apple will launch its first foldable MacBook in the first half of 2026. The device is anticipated to feature Apple's M5 chip, with display production slated to commence in the fourth quarter of 2025. Additional information regarding the device, including its specifications and software features, is expected to emerge online in the coming months.
