In order to obtain additional money for the company, the Confederation of ATM Industry (CATMI) is pushing for an increase in the interchange fee to a maximum of Rs 23 per transaction.

The ET report cited Stanley Johnson, Executive Director of AGS Transact Technologies, as noting that the transfer rate hasn't been raised in the previous two years ago.

"After communicating with the RBI, it appears that they are in favor of our request. While some other ATM manufacturers have suggested charging Rs 23, CATMI has suggested hiking the price to Rs 21," he said.

"The previous hike took several years, but it seems like everyone is aligned now, and it's only a matter of time before the fee increase is approved," Johnson stated.
This fee is what the bank that issued the card (the issuer) must pay to the bank that the cardholder uses to withdraw cash (the acquirer). Furthermore, the maximum amount of money that could be charged to clients was raised from Rs 20 to Rs 21 each transaction.

The interchange fee for ATM transactions increased in 2021 from Rs 15 to Rs 17.
