The External Affairs Ministry acknowledged that two Indians who were enlisted by the Russian Army perished in the battle in Ukraine.

The Indian Embassy in Moscow has vigorously pursued the topic of the early release and return of all Indian nationals serving in the Russian Army with the Russian Ambassador in New Delhi and with Russian authorities in Moscow, according to a statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs.
The EAM statement went on to say that India has further urged that the Russian Army cease recruiting any more of its people.

The government reminded Indian citizens to proceed with caution when looking for work in Russia.

In March, the MEA issued an order to Indian nationals to remain vigilant and abstain from accepting positions in Russian military groups that could endanger their lives. This warning is given in light of the recent deaths of two Indian nationals who were working for the Russian Army as support staff.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal urged nationals not to be "swayed" by offers from agents for support positions with the Russian Army during a weekly briefing. He warned that there could be serious risks involved, including death.
In the same month, scores of Indians were duped into accepting lucrative employment and other opportunities, according to a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation sent to fight in the Russia-Ukraine war. The probe agency then busted a human trafficking network involved in sending the young Indians abroad.

The investigation was launched a day after it was announced that a 30-year-old Hyderabadi man, a victim of work fraud, had lost his life while defending Russia in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
