Sony Announces State of Play Games Showcase for May 30

Sony has revealed that a State of Play games showcase is scheduled for Thursday, May 30. The live broadcast will commence at 3pm PT / 6pm ET (or Friday, 3:30am IST) and will focus on updates regarding PS5 and PS VR2 titles. Additionally, viewers can anticipate a sneak peek at Sony's lineup of first-party games set to launch later this year. The previous State of Play showcase took place on February 6, where Square Enix provided an in-depth look at Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

The showcase is expected to run for over 30 minutes and will feature 14 PS5 and PS VR2 games. While Sony has not disclosed specific details about the content, there are rumors circulating about a new Astro Bot title from Team Asobi, updates on Destiny 2: The Final Shape, and an announcement regarding PC game support for PS VR2. However, it's unlikely that there will be major reveals from Sony's first-party studios, such as updates on Wolverine from Insomniac Games, or new games from Naughty Dog or Santa Monica Studio, as the focus will primarily be on PlayStation Studios games slated for release in 2024.

The State of Play showcase will kick off the summer season of gaming industry events. Following Sony's event on May 30, Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest, which has become the prominent replacement for E3 as the largest summer games event, will stream on June 7. Additionally, Devolver Digital will host its own Direct presentation on the same day. The Summer Game Fest's Day of the Devs event, highlighting indie games, is also scheduled for June 7.

Following the State of Play showcase, on June 9, Microsoft will host the Xbox Games Showcase, followed by a Direct presentation focused on Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Concurrently, the PC Gaming Show will also take place on June 9. The following day, Ubisoft Forward is scheduled to arrive, featuring updates anticipated on Assassin's Creed Shadows and Star Wars Outlaws.

Sony has already hosted two State of Play streams this year. The first showcase took place on January 31 and featured games such as Death Stranding 2, Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin, and others. The second State of Play of the year, focused on Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, was broadcast on February 6. The upcoming edition of the event will be streamed live on PlayStation's YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok channels.
