Mamata requests that Modi postpone enacting new criminal laws.

New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to postpone the three criminal legislation that were "hurriedly passed" and are scheduled to go into effect on July 1 in order to give Parliament time to evaluate them thoroughly.

The head of the Trinamool Congress, in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, voiced "grave concern" about the three laws that are about to be implemented: the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNA) 2023, the Bharatiya Sakhsya Act (BSA) 2023, and the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023.

She pointed out that during the period when 146 MPs were suspended, the three Bills were approved by the Lok Sabha. "These three crucial bills were approved by your departing government in an undemocratic manner with nary a debate. On that day, 146 Members of Parliament from both Houses were expelled from Parliament and almost 100 Lok Sabha members were suspended, according to Banerjee.

It was during that dark period of democracy that the Bills were passed in an authoritarian fashion. It merits reconsideration right now," she declared. "At the very least, I implore your respected office to think about delaying the implementation date. There are two main justifications: moral and pragmatic," she stated.

Significant legislative changes, according to her, ought to be brought before the recently elected Parliament for additional consideration and examination. Given the numerous objections voiced in the public sphere over the hastily enacted new legislation, a new parliamentary examination of these initiatives would show a dedication to democratic ideals. This strategy would provide the recently elected representatives of the people a chance to carefully review the suggested," she stated.

According to Banerjee, the request for a postponement also results from a practical evaluation of the difficulties and preparatory work.
