Sreeja Akula does the double in table tennis: wins the Lagos solo and doubles WTT titles
Sreeja would surpass Manika Batra to become the highest-ranked Indian and achieve a career-high rating of World No. 25 with her singles victory.
At the WTT Contender in Lagos on Sunday, Sreeja Akula made history by becoming the first Indian to win a singles title at the Contender category. She made history by becoming the first Indian to win two titles at the same World Table Tennis event level when she triumphed in the women's doubles division.
After winning the singles competition, Sreeja is expected to jump ahead of Manika Batra, who has been India's best female paddler for most of the past five years, to a career-high rating of World No. 25, making her the highest-ranked Indian. Earlier this year, Sreeja had already passed Batra.
