Creator of TikToks, ByteDance, Releases a Text-to-Video AI App to Compete with OpenAI's Sora
The parent company of the short video app company TikTok has launched a text-to-video model, which comes after several other such model releases in China in recent months.
ByteDance has joined the increasing number of Chinese IT companies venturing into an emerging industry that is also being pursued by OpenAI, the company that created ChatGPT, by expanding its software product that can create videos in response to text inputs.
Chinese businesses have built similar tools swiftly, with some launching models that are accessible to users since Microsoft-backed OpenAI introduced its text-to-video model Sora in February. However, the model is not currently available for public use.
After being released on Android on July 31, Jimeng AI, created by ByteDance-owned Faceu Technology, is now accessible for Chinese users on the Apple App Store, according to Reuters' checks on Tuesday.

Late this month, one of the biggest video apps in China, Kuaishou, made their Kling AI text-to-video model available to users worldwide. Its beta version can be accessed from anywhere in the world and registration just needs an email address.
Last month, the Chinese AI startup Zhipu AI also unveiled its video-generating model, Ying. A few days after its debut, Shengshu, another startup, formally unveiled its Vidu app.
Faceu Technology is part of ByteDance's Jianying company, which is most recognized for CapCut, a video editing tool.

Subscriptions to Jimeng AI are available for 69 yuan ($9.65) per month, 79 yuan per month, or 659 yuan per year. Users can produce roughly 2,050 pictures or 168 AI movies every month with any package.
