Guilty of Killing Hyderabad Woman in UK, Brazilian Man Sent to Mental Hospital.
A Brazilian man was found guilty of murdering an Indian woman in the UK and was sentenced to a mental hospital, reported The Times of India. The court sentenced him after he admitted to killing the woman from Hyderabad and trying to kill her roommate in Wembley.
24-year-old Kevin Lourenco de Morals attacked Kontham Tejasvini from Hyderabad on June 13 last year. After killing her, Morals called his girlfriend and said, "I have killed the Indian women." The police arrested him soon after by tracking his phone.
After a trial lasting over six months, Kevin admitted to murdering Tejasvini (27) and trying to murder her roommate Akhila Janagama (now 29).
Judge Martin Edmunds issued a hospital order under the Mental Health Act at Isleworth Crown Court on Thursday, stating that Kevin was not mentally stable when he attacked the two women.
The judge said Kevin had paranoid schizophrenia and had a psychotic episode during the attacks. He was sent to Bethlem Royal Hospital in Beckenham.
Kontham Tejasvini had moved to London from Hyderabad on a student visa in 2020 to pursue a master's degree in computer science at Greenwich University. She later got a job as a team leader in Wembley.
She met her roommate Janagama in March 2023, and they moved into a shared house. De Morals and his girlfriend also lived there. The Indian women and the couple had no previous interaction before the attack on June 13, 2023.
Kevin, who had a history of mental illness, had stopped taking his medication and said he attacked the women because of the "voices he heard."
