Introduction:

Ayurveda and Proper Digestion

Ayurveda, the traditional Indian system of medicine, highlights the importance of good digestion and body balance. A healthy diet is key to a healthy lifestyle. What you eat affects your overall health and well-being. Food provides nutrients, but eating the wrong combinations can cause digestive issues and poor health.

Wrong Food Combinations According to Ayurveda

Nutritionist and yoga teacher Juhi Kapoor shared on Instagram some food combinations to avoid, according to Ayurveda.

Ice Cream and Gulab Jamun

This popular dessert mix is tasty but not advisable. Ayurveda suggests avoiding hot and cold foods together, as it can cause bloating and discomfort. Hot foods increase blood flow to the stomach for digestion, while cold foods slow it down.

Tea with Meals

Drinking tea with breakfast or snacks is common but not ideal. Tea has tannin and caffeine, which hinder iron and calcium absorption in the body.

Fruit and Milk

Milkshakes and smoothies are delicious but not recommended. Mixing fruit and milk can lead to bloating and discomfort. Ayurveda advises against this combination, as it may cause the fruit to ferment in the stomach. Only sweet mangoes are suitable to mix with milk.

Palak and Paneer

Palak paneer is a favorite dish, but Ayurveda advises against combining them. The calcium in paneer can interfere with iron absorption from spinach.

Dates and Milk

Combining foods high in calcium and iron can affect iron absorption. Dates and milk together can reduce iron uptake. Occasionally, eating this combination is fine, but regular consumption hinders iron and calcium absorption.

Honey with Hot Water

Heating honey destroys its beneficial enzymes and antioxidants. Mixing honey with hot liquids like water, tea, or coffee can create harmful compounds. It's better to consume honey at room temperature or in lukewarm water to retain its health benefits.

Fish and Milk

Eating fish and milk together can cause digestive discomfort. Ayurveda considers these two protein sources indigestible when combined, leading to toxin buildup in the body.
