Durbar Hall and Ashok Hall at Rashtrapati Bhavan to Be Renamed

New Delhi: On Thursday, the famous "Durbar Hall" and "Ashok Hall" of Rashtrapati Bhavan, which served as locations for various ceremonial events, were renamed "Ganatantra Mandap" and "Ashok Mandap," respectively.
The president of India resides in Rashtrapati Bhavan, which is both a priceless national legacy and a symbol of the country.

"There is a constant attempt to improve people's accessibility. A statement from the President's Secretariat stated, "There has been a persistent effort to make the atmosphere of Rashtrapati Bhavan reflective of the Indian cultural values and ethos."
As a result, it stated that President Droupadi Murmu is happy to rename "Durbar Hall" and "Ashok Hall," two significant Rashtrapati Bhavan halls, as "Ganatantra Mandap" and "Ashok Mandap," respectively.

Important events and celebrations, including the granting of national honors, take place in "Durbar Hall."

"The courts and gatherings of Indian kings and the British are referred to as durbars. 'Ganatantra' became obsolete when India became a republic. The statement said, "'Ganatantra Mandap' is an appropriate name for the venue because the notion of 'Ganatantra' is strongly ingrained in Indian civilization since ancient times.
"Ashok Hall" began life as a ballroom.
"The word 'Ashok' connotes someone who is 'free from all sufferings' or is 'bereft of any sorrow'," the statement continued.
Furthermore, is stated that "Ashoka" alludes to Emperor Ashok, a representation of harmony and peaceful coexistence.

"The lion capital of Ashok from Sarnath serves as the national emblem of the Republic of India." The Ashok tree, which has great significance in Indian religious traditions, arts, and culture, is also mentioned by name. "Renaming 'Ashok Hall' as 'Ashok Mandap' maintains the important values associated with the word 'Ashok' while bringing uniformity to language and eliminating any anglicization," the statement stated.
