Delhi government to Supreme Court: Water tanker mafia entering city from Haryana

Delhi's water crisis becomes worse
The Delhi administration alleges that a water tanker gang is coming from Haryana.
It states that jurisdictional concerns are impeding action against the water mafia.
The Delhi administration claimed that the water tanker mafia was entering Delhi from the Haryana border in an affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court over the current water crisis in the nation's capital.
The Aam Aadmi Party added that jurisdictional concerns prevented it from taking action against the water mafia. It did, however, state that it was doing everything in its power to stop water leaks.

Regarding any news articles or mentions of a purported "tanker mafia," this illegal water theft occurs before the water reaches the CLC or DSB. Stated differently, the tanker mafia is operational on the Haryana side of the Yamuna river and the Petitioner lacks jurisdiction to act against the same," the affidavit mentioned.

The blame game over the issue intensified on Wednesday when Delhi minister Atishi claimed that senior officials conspired with the mafia to reduce the number of DJB tankers and demanded an investigation into it. The Supreme Court blasted the AAP government for their role in the tanker mafia's involvement in the water crisis in the nation's capital.

Following the observations made by the Supreme Court, the Lieutenant Governor Secretariat wrote to the Commissioner of Delhi Police, requesting that he take action against the tanker mafia that is stealing water from the Munak canal, which takes water from Haryana.

In a letter to the police commissioner, the LG requested a compliance report within a week and instructed him to maintain strict surveillance along the canal to stop any water theft by tanker mafia and other illegal activities.

The Delhi government has been accusing Haryana of not releasing its fair share of water, which has left the nation's capital facing a severe water shortage.
