Hyderabad: Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) is conducting a counseling process to admit eligible candidates to government and private MBBS/BDS colleges in Telangana State. The process has become contentious due to accusations of unfair treatment of local students, including giving preference to out-of-state candidates.

Parents of Telangana State students who qualified for NEET-2024 approached Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha on Monday, requesting his intervention regarding a change to Government Order (GO 33, dated July 19, 2024), which updated the qualifying domicile status of students who took the NEET entrance exam this year.

As per the recent modification in GO-33, pupils who successfully finish Class 9, 10, 11, and 12 without any interruption are qualified to be regarded as locals in their domicile status. On the other hand, students who completed their education in Telangana State continuously for a maximum of 4 years between Class 6 and Class 12 were regarded as local students up until last year (before to the amendment to GO-33).

Many families from regions like Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar preferred to send their Telangana State-born children to Vijayawada for intermediate first and second year and NEET entrance coaching because of the previous eligibility rule.
