Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and other Arab leaders are set to meet in Beijing this week. This gathering occurs as China aims to position itself as a mediator in the conflict between the Palestinian militant group Hamas and Israel.

Leaders from Egypt, UAE, Bahrain, and Tunisia to Visit China

According to Beijing's foreign ministry, Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, along with leaders from the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Tunisia, will visit China this week.

Leaders to Visit China and Attend Conference

Foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying announced that the leaders will be in China from May 28 to June 1 to "undertake state visits and participate in the opening ceremony of the 10th Ministerial Conference of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum."

China's President Xi Jinping has called for an "international peace conference" to address the ongoing conflict between the Palestinian militant group Hamas and Israel. China, historically supportive of the Palestinian cause, aims to position itself as a mediator in this conflict. Among the delegation visiting China will be Bahrain's King Hamad, Tunisian President Kais Saied, and the UAE's President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Meeting in Beijing for Peace Talks

In November, a meeting was held in Beijing with foreign ministers from the Palestinian Authority, Indonesia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan. The aim of the talks was to reduce tensions in the current Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Casualties and Hostages

Hamas's attack on southern Israel on October 7 resulted in the deaths of over 1,170 people, primarily civilians, based on an AFP count using Israeli official data. Additionally, militants captured 252 hostages, with 121 still in Gaza, including 37 reported deceased by the military.

Retaliatory Strikes by Israel

Israel's response has led to the deaths of at least 35,984 individuals in Gaza, mostly civilians, according to the health ministry of the Hamas-controlled territory.
