People began making fun of her dialogue delivery and imitating her in memes after she appeared in her uncle Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Netflix series, where she was thought to be acting emotionlessly. Sharmin, however, claimed that when specific boundaries were breached, the attacks turned personal.

Sharmin claimed that her co-stars in Heeramandi, who called to see how she was doing, offered her support.
