In 2024, would India celebrate its 77th or 78th Independence Day?
Whether the day can be counted from August 15, 1947, the day India earned independence, or from the day it celebrated its first anniversary one year later, is the central question of contention.
If we calculate backward from the day of independence, then Myanmar will be celebrating its 78th anniversary of becoming independent. But August 15, 1948, marks the 77th anniversary of Independence Day.
The 76th Independence Day was observed on August 15, 2022, according to the Press Information Bureau. Thus, this year will be India's 78th Independence Day, based on the calendar that our government employs.
