Who Is Harish Salve, the Attorney Pursuing an Olympic Medal for Vinesh Phogat?
The confirmation of Harish Salve's representation of Vinesh Phogat has come from the former Solicitor General of India and King's Counsel.
New Delhi: Now, the hopes of a billion Indians rest on the shoulders of attorney Harish Salve, who will today represent wrestler Vinesh Phogat in her Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) disqualification case related to the Paris Olympics.
A weight problem eliminated Ms. Phogat, a leading competitor in the 50-kg wrestling division, from the Paris Olympics mere hours before the championship match. The Phogat put on an amazing performance at the main event, and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has requested that she be awarded a joint silver medal.
A global organization known as the Court of Arbitration for Sport, or CAS, was founded in 1984 with the purpose of using arbitration to resolve conflicts in sports.
The IOA has hired former Solicitor General of India and King's Counsel Harish Salve to represent Phogat in the case, Salve has revealed.
Salve served as India's Solicitor General from 1999 until 2002. He is regarded as one of the best attorneys in India and is well-versed in arbitration, business, and constitutional law.

In the 2017 Kulbhushan Jadhav case, he represented India before the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Jadhav is an Indian national who was given a death sentence in Pakistan. Salve was successful in his request that Jadhav's execution be postponed.

(2012) Vodafone Tax issue: Mr. Salve defended Vodafone in a well-known tax issue, winning a significant win for the business.
2012's 2G Spectrum Scam: In the 2G spectrum allocation case, Mr. Salve represented the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Sahara Group v. SEBI (2012): In a legal dispute with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the attorney acted on behalf of the Sahara Group.
On Thursday, Vinesh Phogat, who was disqualified from the final of the Paris Olympics, declared her retirement from wrestling.
Ms. Phogat posted an emotional message on X in which she acknowledged her loss and thanked God, writing, "Maa kushti (wrestling) prevailed against me, I lost. Please pardon me for shattering both your dream and my bravery. I've used up all of my strength. Wrestling: Farewell, 2001–2024. I will always be indebted to you all for forgiveness."
