The woman wed Alok Upadhyay in the Ghazipur district in 2022, according to the FIR. Abuse started shortly after the nuptials.According to the woman, her mother-in-law put pressure on her to have "physical relations." She says that when she refused, her mother-in-law attacked her with a knife, leaving five stitches-needed gashes on her arm.

According to the article, the woman was confined to a room for a month and had to wear the same clothing because her sister-in-law took them away. The woman also says that she was physically abused and that she was constantly asked for a payment.

It is said that when the wife gave birth to a boy in 2023, the torture intensified. The woman was allegedly physically abused by her husband, who also questioned the child's validity. She was booted out of the house after the beating. She was permitted to return inside the residence after neighbors interfered.

After receiving a visit from her father a few days later, the woman returned to her mother's house in Agra.

The woman's in-laws reached out to her and her father earlier this month in an attempt to reach a solution. Her father and the woman went back to the in-laws' house for discussions, but the meeting ended in a scuffle, prompting them to leave again. This incident occurred on June 7.
