Update on the Gaza War: According to the Israeli military, fighters from Hamas were operating out of the school. It further stated that the terrorists were members of the Nukhba Forces and took part in the massacre on October 7. It further stated that the strike "eliminated" a number of terrorists.
The Israeli army claimed to have launched a lethal attack on a UN school in central Gaza on Thursday, leaving at least 33 people dead. There was a "Hamas compound" at the school, according to the army.
On X, the Israel Defense Forces shared a post titled "several Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists who embedded themselves inside of a @UNRWA school." The statement read, "A precise strike was carried out by IAF fighter jets on a Hamas compound located inside a school in the Nuseirat area."
According to the Israeli military, fighters from Hamas were operating out of the school. It further stated that the terrorists were members of the Nukhba Forces and took part in the massacre on October 7. It further stated that the strike "eliminated" a number of terrorists.
Furthermore, the IDF made it clear that other precautions were taken "to decrease the possibility of hurting uninvolved civilians during the operation," including aerial surveillance and the gathering of supplementary intelligence."
Thirteen women and fourteen children were among the at least thirty-three people who were reportedly killed in the attack, according to hospital records cited by news agency Associated Press. Six individuals were murdered in another strike on a residence overnight, according to the data.
The two attacks took place in Nuseirat, one of numerous constructed camps for refugees in Gaza that date back to the 1948 war that preceded the founding of Israel and resulted in the flight or expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homes in the future state.
