Former Board of Control for Cricket in India president Sourav Ganguly has selected batting maestro Virat Kohli to partner with India captain Rohit Sharma in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, happening in the USA and West Indies from June 1 to 29.
Kohli, who had an outstanding 2024 IPL season while opening for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, emerged as the top run-scorer in the 17th edition of the cash-rich league. He amassed 741 runs in 15 matches at an average of 61.75, with a strike rate of 154.69, which is his highest in a single IPL season.

Ganguly emphasized the importance of Kohli playing with freedom, akin to his performance in the latter half of the IPL, for India's success in the T20 World Cup.
In addition to Kohli, Ganguly expressed confidence in the abilities of wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who made a strong return to professional cricket after a car accident in December 2022.
Pant showcased his prowess with the bat, scoring 446 runs at an average of 40.54 and a strike rate of 155.40 in the IPL. Ganguly praised Pant's capability to hit shots all over the ground and highlighted his unique ability to find gaps.
India aims to clinch the T20 World Cup title, seeking to end their ICC trophy drought since winning the inaugural edition in 2007. Despite several strong performances in various ICC events, India has fallen short of securing a major trophy.
