PM Narendra Modi will conclude his two-day meditation retreat in Kanniyakumari today, coinciding with the final phase of the Lok Sabha election.
On June 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi began the second day of his meditation retreat at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanniyakumari. PM Modi is set to conclude his meditation today, coinciding with the seventh phase of the Lok Sabha election 2024, where eight states and UTs are going to polls.
PM Modi started his second day of meditation in Tamil Nadu after performing the 'Surya Arghya' during sunrise at the Vivekananda Rock, where Swami Vivekananda meditated before attaining enlightenment.
The prime minister performed the 'Surya Arghya,' a ritual linked with spiritual practice that involves offering salutations to the Almighty in the form of the sun.
Using a traditional vessel resembling a small beaker, the PM poured water into the sea as an offering (Arghya) and prayed with his prayer beads (Japa mala). He wore saffron attire and also laid floral tributes at a statue of Swami Vivekananda, as per officials.
The prime minister then circled the mandapam with his 'japa mala' in hand. Following the conclusion of his two-day meditation on Saturday evening, PM Modi will travel to Delhi after the Lok Sabha polls conclude.
Kanyakumari is renowned for its breathtaking sunrise and sunset, with the memorial situated on a small islet near the shore. PM Modi commenced his meditation at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial on the evening of May 30 and is set to conclude it today.
Arriving at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial on Thursday, PM Modi followed in the footsteps of Goddess Parvati, who, according to Hindu scriptures, also meditated at the same location standing on one foot as she awaited Lord Shiva.
The prime minister journeyed to Kanniyakumari on Thursday after wrapping up the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) election campaign in Punjab's Hoshiarpur. As he vies for a third term in office, PM Modi conducted an extensive campaign across the nation for the Lok Sabha polls, the results of which are slated for announcement on June 4.
During the election season, PM Modi conducted approximately 206 campaign events, comprising rallies and roadshows, over a span of 75 days. Additionally, he participated in roughly 80 interviews with various news and media platforms.
