Kerala Government Rejects Opposition's Demand to Register Corruption Case in Liquor Policy Dispute

On Monday, Kerala's Left government rejected the opposition Congress-led UDF's plea to initiate legal action under the Prevention of Corruption Act regarding allegations surrounding the "amendment" of the state's liquor policy. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan dismissed this demand from the opposition during the state assembly session, marking the first assembly meeting since the Lok Sabha polls.
Following the government's decision, the opposition grew agitated, chanting slogans against the LDF government and displaying placards in protest. They stood in front of Speaker A N Shamseer's podium to express their discontent.
Despite the UDF, led by Leader of the Opposition V D Satheesan, persisting in their demand for the CPI (M)-led regime to file a corruption case regarding the issue, Chief Minister Vijayan mentioned that a police investigation was already underway.
"The State's Excise Minister swiftly lodged a complaint with the Director General of Police upon uncovering false reports regarding the state's liquor policy," he confirmed.
He reiterated that an investigation is currently underway in response to the complaint, emphasizing that appropriate actions will be taken against any unlawful activities uncovered.
