Live updates on the Lok Sabha session: As the Leader of the House, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the oath of office on Monday as a member of the 18th Lok Sabha. The other Union ministers and the recently elected Members of Parliament are currently being sworn in as members of the Lower House. The freshly elected Members of Parliament are taking an oath from Pro-tem Speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab.

Panel members from the Congress and INDIA bloc declined to assist with the newly elected MPs' oath-taking ceremony during the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha, which convened today. When is the next Speaker going to be chosen?

The Lok Sabha will choose its next Speaker on June 26. The Speaker of a newly formed Lok Sabha is chosen by a simple majority vote. A pro-tem Speaker is chosen to fulfill crucial duties in the interim until the Speaker is elected. The designation "pro-tem" denotes the temporary nature of this office.

18th Lok Sabha

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) got 293 seats, the INDIA bloc won 234 seats, and the Congress held 99 seats. This is the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha after the general elections.

The 17th Lok Sabha's last session, often known as the budget session, took place from January 31 to February 10, 2024.
