Israel to resume Gaza ceasefire talks after US plea.

Jerusalem: Israel responded early on Friday to mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and the US, stating that it will send a delegation to pick up discussions on a ceasefire agreement for Gaza on August 15.

The negotiation team will be sent "to finalize the details for implementing the framework agreement," according to a statement from the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to Xinhua news agency.

The declaration came after the three nations' mediators issued a joint statement urging Israel and Hamas to pick up the discussions on August 15 in order to finish off any loose ends in the planned agreement and get on with putting it into effect right away.

A week-long truce between Israel and Hamas, which included the exchange of Palestinian inmates for Israeli captives and increased supplies of humanitarian goods to Gaza, was brokered by Cairo, Doha, and Washington and ended in late November 2023.

However, further attempts at mediation to achieve a cease-fire agreement have failed. According to an update issued by Gaza's health authorities on Thursday, the battle in the Gaza Strip has resulted in 39,699 Palestinian deaths and 91,722 injuries over the last ten months.
