New Delhi: Following violent student protests against granting job quotas to the offspring of independence warriors, former prime minister Sheikh Hasina departed Bangladesh, and twenty bodies of Awami League politicians have been discovered there. Hindus have also been singled out.

The Dhaka Tribune stated that reports of widespread destruction and looting of Awami League officials' and activists' houses and businesses have come from all around Bangladesh.

Witnesses claimed that a mob set fire to the home of former council member Md Shah Alam in Comilla city, which is located 100 kilometers from the capital Dhaka. On Tuesday, four individuals lost their lives when a mob set MP Shafiqul Islam Shimul's home on fire. Their corpses were discovered on balconies and in rooms.

Parts of the Awami League's primary office were set on fire again on Tuesday. It was first burned down at 12.30 pm on Monday.

Awami League politicians and minorities, including Hindus, have become the primary targets of the mostly Muslim mobs throughout Bangladesh.

Concerns over reports of attacks on minorities, notably Hindus, have been voiced by diplomats and rights groups in Bangladesh. Attacks were made on several Hindu-owned establishments and residences; some in the country of Muslims believe that the Hindu community was close to the leader of the overthrown government, Sheikh Hasina.

"On Monday and Tuesday, at least 97 places where houses and shops belonging to minority people were attacked, vandalized, and looted," a statement from Rana Dasgupta, general secretary of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, said. According to the group, "miscreants" attacked at least ten Hindu temples on Monday.

In Bangladesh's southern Bagerhat area, a Hindu man was fatally assaulted, according to a hospital official who asked to remain anonymous out of fear for his safety, as reported by news agency AFP.

Horrifying events occurred when a mob set fire to the Zabeer International Hotel in Khulna division, resulting in the deaths of 24 individuals. Shahin Chakladar, the general secretary of the Awami League of the Jashore district, is the owner of the hotel. The Khulna Fire Service's deputy director, Mamun Mahmud, stated, "The bodies were lying on different floors."


Muhammad Yunus, the Nobel laureate for pioneering microfinance in Bangladesh, would serve as the head of a temporary administration, the president said today.

In a conference with student leaders, the heads of the army, navy, and air force, as well as President Mohammed Shahabuddin, the decision was taken. A statement from Mr. Shahabuddin's office stated, "(They) decided to form an interim government with Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus as its chief."
