Salary reductions for Babar, Rizwan, Shaheen, and other individuals
Following their early withdrawal from the T20 World Cup, PCB is apparently planning to evaluate the core contracts of every player from Pakistan. Pay cuts may be in store for Babar and Co.
Cricket players from Pakistan, including as captain Babar Azam and standouts Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi, may see pay reductions as the PCB is reportedly considering a review of all players' core contracts following the team's early elimination from the T20 World Cup in 2024. Pakistan was eliminated from the competition during the group stage. They still have a game on Sunday against Ireland, but it's almost meaningless now as the USA won their match against Ireland on Friday and moved on to the Super Eights.
According to the news agency PTI, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi was asked by various authorities and former players to review the central contracts that were awarded to the players under the leadership of his predecessor, Zaka Ashraf.
According to a trustworthy source who spoke to PTI, "if the Chairman decides to react strongly to the team's recent woeful performances, there could be a reassessment of the central contracts and the players could find their salaries, fees being cut."
Pakistan had not progressed past the group stage of the T20 World Cup for the third time in nine editions. Under Younis Khan's leadership, they had won the competition in 2009, and they had advanced to the finals twice, once under Shoaib Malik in 2007 and once under Babar Azam in 2022. In 2010, 2012, and 2021, it advanced to the final four.
