Narendra Modi in Austria: PM Receives Guard of Honour in Vienna | Watch
After concluding his state visit to Russia, PM Narendra Modi is visiting Austria. This marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Austria in 41 years.
During his one-day visit to Austria on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was accorded a ceremonial reception and a guard of honour at the Federal Chancellery in Vienna. The Federal Chancellery hosts the office of Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer and several other members of the government.
PM Narendra Modi arrived in Austria, a central European country, on July 9 for a state visit. He was welcomed at the airport by Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg.
Modi received a warm welcome at the Ritz-Carlton hotel with a special rendition of India's national song, "Vande Mataram." He was also greeted by members of the Indian diaspora.
Later on Wednesday, Modi met with the President of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen, and held talks with Chancellor Karl Nehammer.
Modi is also scheduled to address business leaders from both India and Austria.
Ahead of Modi's visit, Nehammer posted on the social media platform X, stating, "I very much look forward to welcoming Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, the world's largest democracy, next week in Vienna."
The Chancellor highlighted the significance of Modi's visit, calling it a special honor as it marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in over 40 years and coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He described the visit as an opportunity to further deepen bilateral ties and enhance cooperation on various geopolitical challenges.
In response to the Austrian Chancellor, Modi described his visit to Austria as special. “Our nations are connected by shared values and a commitment to a better planet. I am looking forward to the various programs in Austria, including discussions with Federal Chancellor @karlnehammer, interactions with the Indian community, and more,” PM Modi said.
During his visit to Russia, Modi was honored with Russia's highest civilian award, the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle, for his contribution to fostering India-Russia ties.
