Anar, a member of the ruling Awami League party, had recently secured his third consecutive term in the Jhenaidah border district. The 56-year-old MP was found dead in Kolkata, West Bengal, on Wednesday.

• A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed, and the CID is handling the investigation.

• The West Bengal police stated that the Ministry of External Affairs urged the West Bengal government to conduct an investigation.

  • Biswas mentioned that Anwar left his residence on May 13 for a doctor’s appointment, assuring he would return for dinner.

  • On May 13, Biswas received a WhatsApp message from Anwar’s phone, stating he was heading to Delhi for urgent work and should not be contacted.

  • On May 15, Biswas received another message, purportedly from Anwar, confirming that he had arrived in Delhi and was with VIPs.

  • Anwar ceased communication from May 17, leading Biswas to file the police complaint on May 18.

  • Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her condolences and deep sorrow over the lawmaker's death.

    During a press conference in Dhaka, Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan alleged that the MP was killed in a premeditated murder in Kolkata. Speaking to reporters at his residence on Wednesday, the minister announced that Bangladesh Police had arrested three individuals in connection with the case, as reported by the Bangladesh newspaper, Daily Star.
