Physicians are demanding a career advancement plan that guarantees them parity with their peers in the Central government as well as the creation of a specialized cadre for them.
Chandigarh: In an effort to protest the non-fulfillment of their numerous requests, government physicians in Haryana went on an indefinite strike on Thursday, disrupting services at state-run hospitals.
The Haryana Civil Medical Services Association, which advocates for government physicians in the state, issued the strike call. The creation of a specialized cadre for the doctors and a career advancement plan that guarantees parity with their peers in the Central government are among their demands.
The group demanded that medical services in government hospitals be suspended in protest of the requests of the doctors being unfulfilled. The State administration has requested that the body take the effect of the strike on patients into account.
Dr. Rajesh Khyalia, head of the association, stated that "doctors of various government health institutions have proceeded on an indefinite strike across the state." Four members of the association, including Khyalia, began an indefinite hunger strike in front of the Panchkula office of the director general of health services on Wednesday.
The doctors also want a decrease in the bond amount for postgraduate courses and an end to the direct hiring of senior medical officers. Khyalia responded to the government's Thursday request for negotiations by saying, "We will attend the meeting but if there is no
