Farhan: Chose Ranveer for Don 3 after brainstorming with SRK.
Farhan Akhtar stated that he chose to cast Ranveer Singh for Don 3 despite discussing ideas with Shah Rukh Khan since the storyline called for a "next generation actor."
Recently, Ranveer Singh's casting in the upcoming Don franchise film was disclosed by Farhan Akhtar, the film's director. Shah Rukh Khan starred in two of Farhan's adaptations of the classic Amitabh Bachchan film Don (1978), which became a franchise. Farhan stated in a recent interview that the script they were creating required him to recast the part. Additionally, he mentioned that Ranveer will have the opportunity to show off a part of himself that has never been seen on screen.
Farhan gave an explanation for why he chose to cast Ranveer in the movie in an interview with Raj Shamani on his YouTube channel. He stated, "The kind of script that we were developing, what I wanted to "Action, dialogue baazi but the personality is going to be different from what he has played which I find interesting with him," Farhan stated when asked about Don 3's potential to offer him this opportunity.
Farhan responded that while they had considered a few possibilities, none of them truly worked out when asked why Shah Rukh Khan was left out of Don 3. He continued, "After much back and forth, we decided to part ways on Don. There were a couple of ideas that we exchanged, and we wrote some stuff also, but somehow—I mean, either he was excited by something that I didn't feel, or then I was really excited by something that he felt was not—and that happens." He remarked, "We said we have completed two that are really enjoyable and amazing together."
Salim-Javed wrote Don, which debuted with Amitabh Bachchan. Following the 1978 release, Farhan recreated the movie in 2006, this time starring SRK. In2011, he then produced a follow-up. Since then, Farhan has not directed any movies.
