In a recent cricket match, an ex-Mumbai Indians star lashed out at the umpire following a contentious run out decision involving Virat Kohli and Cameron Green. The incident sparked a heated debate among fans and players alike.
Ex-MI Star Criticizes Umpire for Run Out Call by Virat Kohli and Cameron Green: 'Have the Rules Changed?'
Former Mumbai Indians pacer Mitchell McClenaghan questioned the run-out decision of Dhruv Jurel by Virat Kohli and Cameron Green in the crucial IPL 2024 eliminator between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. It was a key moment in the game as Kohli made another athletic play to shift the momentum slightly in RCB's favor. However, it wasn't enough as RCB lost the match by four wickets and were eliminated from the tournament.
Fans and commentators praised the run-out, but McClenaghan was not impressed. He pointed out a mistake Cameron Green made while knocking off the bails. The Kiwi pacer posted a cheeky tweet criticizing the umpires.
"Always thought you had to have the ball in your hand to cause a runout… have the rules changed?
RRvRCB," he posted on X.
McClenaghan also shared a photo of the cricket law related to run out on X. "The wicket is broken fairly if a bail is completely removed from the top of the stumps, or a stump is struck out of the ground by a fielder with his hand or arm, providing that the ball is held in the hand or hands so used, or in the hand of the arm so used," the rule stated.
It was the first ball of the 14th over when Riyan Parag hit the ball to deep mid-wicket. Kohli sprinted to grab the ball and threw it quickly towards the bowler's end where Green completed the runout. It was a close call as the third umpire checked it for a few minutes before deciding it was out.
Sanju Samson and his team won the Eliminator by four wickets on Wednesday. After their bowlers restricted RCB to 172/8, RR batters struggled in the middle overs, allowing RCB to come back into the game. However, the 2008 winners eventually won with an over to spare.
