Harare: Shubman Gill feels that captaincy "brings out the best in him" after discovering the side of him that he genuinely enjoyed on the field while leading India to a 4-1 series victory against Zimbabwe.

India defeated Zimbabwe 4-1 in the series, with Gill, who just missed out on selection for the T20 World Cup, emerging as one of the team's best players. The series ended in Harare on Sunday. The right-hander did a fantastic job in both positions as opener and captain, amassing a series-best 170 runs at an average of 42.50.

For the first time, Gill, 24, captained India at the senior level during the Zimbabwe series, and he said he had fun. Gill's leadership will be taken into consideration ahead of India's white-ball series in Sri Lanka later this month and the three home games against Bangladesh later in the year, as the search for Rohit's replacement as captain continues.

It's definitely something I enjoy doing. I believe that when I'm out there, I show my best self because I appear to be invested in the game. Being on the field is something that truly brings out the best in me, Gill remarked.
