Why are there more long-term objectives for Euro 2024?
The official ball allows for the greatest amount of precision, giving the goal scorer total control over the trajectory. Another factor is that players have more freedom than they do at major league teams, where finishing patterns are more rigid.
Arda Guler had previously done it. His goal was a wonderful curler from outside the box, his first ever for Turkey. The "Turkish Messi" therefore had little question about the shot's destiny when he let it fly against Georgia in his Euros debut; it pierced through the crisp Dortmund air and curved beautifully to ruffle the top corner.
Guler became the youngest goal scorer at the Euros with the goal, which was the talk of the preliminary round. More importantly, it popularized long-term objectives. Guler's is not the exclusive instance.
