When does Nirmala Sitharaman present the Union Budget 2024?

With the Narendra Modi-led NDA administration in charge, all eyes are now on Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's Budget 2024 in July, following the stock market turbulence caused by exit polls and election outcomes.

When will the full-year Union Budget be presented? The timing of the first session of Parliament is a hot topic.

Kiren Rijiju, the new Parliamentary Affairs Minister, announced on X (previously Twitter) that the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha will begin on June 24 and end on July 3.

On February 1, the finance minister introduced an interim budget. This interim budget will be in effect until the new administration takes office. It normally avoids big policy pronouncements and revisions.

In July, the newly elected government releases a detailed budget for the fiscal year, including the new administration's economic policies, expenditures, and revenue plans for the entire fiscal year.

According to sources cited by the financial daily, the government may prefer a session separated by a recess, with the motion of thanks in the first half and the budget presentation in the second.

The Lok Sabha session appears to have been divided into two parts, with the pro-tem speaker delivering the oath of office to freshly elected MPs over the first two days.

An ET report indicates that the second part of the session might start on July 22 with the presentation of the Union Budget 2024. This session is scheduled to run until August 9, comprising 15 sittings.
