New Era Begins: Gaurav Banerjee is Sony Pictures Network India’s CEO!

Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has named Disney Star's Gaurav Banerjee as its new CEO, replacing NP Singh, according to two sources. Singh announced last week that he would step down after 25 years at Sony.

At Disney Star, Banerjee managed content for Hindi entertainment and Disney+ Hotstar. He also led Star Bharat and channels for Hindi and English movies, kids, infotainment, and regional (east) channels. He was not available for comment.

Banerjee, a former journalist, began his career at Aaj Tak before moving to Star News in 2004 as a prime-time anchor and senior producer. In 2005, he helped launch the Bengali news channel Star Ananda.

In 2008, he moved to Star India to lead content strategy for regional entertainment channels, aiding in the launch of Star Jalsha in Bengal and Star Pravah in Maharashtra.

As head of content strategy for Star Plus in 2009, Banerjee played a key role in revitalizing the channel with hit shows like Diya Aur Baati Hum and Sasural Genda Phool, helping the channel regain its top position in 2010. He became general manager of Star Plus in 2013 and led the Content Studio in 2015.

Banerjee has a master’s degree in filmmaking and TV production from the Mass Communications Research Centre at Jamia Millia Islamia University, Delhi. He completed his undergraduate studies in history at St. Stephen's College, Delhi.
