Wayanad (Kerala): On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted an airborne assessment of the district in north Kerala that was struck by landslides, resulting in hundreds of fatalities.
Using an Indian Air Force helicopter, PM Modi surveyed the landslide-ravaged hamlets of Chooralmala, Mundakkai, and Punchirimattom from the air. He left Kannur Airport for Wayanad at approximately 11:15 a.m.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, and Union Minister of State for Tourism, Petroleum, and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi joined him.
Following the aerial reconnaissance, he will land at Kalpetta's SKMJ Higher Secondary School, from where PM Modi will go by road to areas affected by landslides.
His arrival coincides with the Kerala government's efforts to ₹ 2,000 crore in assistance for rehabilitation and relief work in the disaster-stricken region.
One of the worst natural disasters to have affected the southern state, landslides on July 30 caused at least 226 deaths and numerous unaccounted-for deaths.
